Luke Fitzgerald, Managing Director of Active Rehabilitation Physiotherapy, is a dedicated physiotherapist with a passion for the profession and its transformative impact on individuals and communities. With an MBA and a Bachelor of Physiotherapy, Luke combines clinical expertise with strategic leadership, playing a pivotal role in driving the business’s operational, technological, and clinical advancements.
As Managing Director, Luke oversees the Information and Technology portfolio, ensuring Active remains at the forefront of innovation to support both clinical and administrative excellence. He collaborates closely with the Executive Team, including his father and Active’s Founder, John Fitzgerald, to shape the strategic direction of the business while fostering a supportive and dynamic workplace culture.
Luke’s clinical expertise focuses on post-operative orthopaedics and musculoskeletal physiotherapy. He works alongside Brisbane’s leading orthopaedic surgeons in partnered post-operative clinics, providing exceptional care for patients recovering from surgery, sports injuries, and musculoskeletal conditions. Known for his kind and insightful approach, Luke uses a hands-on, education- and exercise-based methodology to alleviate pain, restore function, and empower patients to take charge of their recovery with realistic and personalised plans.
Luke’s journey with Active spans many roles, including Orthopaedics Team Leader and member of the Clinical Education team, where he supported final-year physiotherapy students from the University of Queensland (UQ). His commitment to education extends internationally through his work with the Active Rehabilitation Research Foundation. As a Clinical Educator, Luke has traveled to Timor-Leste in partnership with UQ, mentoring final-year physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and speech pathology students to help create sustainable healthcare outcomes for Timorese communities.
Luke’s experience in sports physiotherapy includes supporting the Fijian Youth Netball Team at the 2017 World Youth Netball Cup in Botswana and the Fijian National Netball Team at the 2019 World Cup in Liverpool, England.
